The Garden Spade:
Ordinary shovels have the following deficiencies:
1. The handles are small and difficult to grip.
2. The user's foot is always off center. This means the downward force is always diminished and misdirected. If the blade is small, the foot never fits fully onto the blade.
3. To lift a load, the user must use the back to lift, not the legs. This is because the forward arm grips the handle close to the blade, creating an awkward center of gravity.
4. To throw a load the forward arm is tightened because of its grip position. Throws are short, uncomfortable, and inefficient.
The NicGrip Spade:
1. The NicGrip handle incorporates a horizontal handle. Its position changes the center of gravity of the body, allowing lifting to be done with the legs, not the back.
2. The user places the driving foot onto the center of the blade, in between the two rails. All of the force is centered and being directed downward.
3. The wide handle at the top allows the hands to grasp comfortably and help balance the user when pushing downward.
4. Throwing is easier because the arms are holding the shovel in relaxed positions.
This video shows a side by side comparison of the NicGrip handle and a conventional handle. It emphasizes how much easier the NicGrip spade is to use when gripping a shovel, digging, lifting, and throwing. This clearly demonstrates the difference between lifting a heavy load using your back versus using the NicGrip handle, allowing the worker to lift the load with his legs.
